Summary: Cut your vehicle’s greenhouse gas pollution and carbon footprint

”’Fuel Injectors”’
If your vehicle is 4 years or more old, replacing the fuel injectors will do wonders for you. Why? Think of a fuel injector as a mister, similar to a water mister for your plants. The purpose of this mister is to create a fine mist out of your fuel so that it can burn. Remember, liquid fuel DOES NOT BURN – it has to be atomized or it will only become pollution, not power.

Now include in this picture the fact that your fuel is sent to these fuel injectors at high pressure. As with any fluid going through a small hole at high pressure, the hole will eventually wear larger than it was originally. Once this happens, instead of misting your fuel, your fuel will be squirted. That is, liquid fuel will now be entering into your engine as a stream.

And again, liquid fuel cannot burn! Your mileage will suffer and you will be sending more pollution into the air because you are not atomizing your fuel completely.

While replacing your injectors is on the short side of a pricey affair, the trade-off is a better running vehicle with more power and cleaner air for you to breath.

”’Air Filters”’
Just as pollution controls clogging up your exhaust will cause your vehicles to work harder to simply move, so will a bad air filter. If you have ever tried to breath through a bad air filter when you were painting, you would know what your engine is up against with a dirty air filter inside of it.

Also, most air filters are made out of a type of paper that is cheap and replaceable. However, you are using paper that will not be recycled when discarded, so you are ‘killing trees’ with these filters.

Not only that, but paper air filters really don’t breath very well in the first place! And if you put on that bad air filter mentioned above and tried to run any distance, you would soon want a better air filter rather badly.

If you are using a small vehicle, you have alternatives that will cause you to end the waste of paper air filters and that are readily available over the counter at most auto parts stores. For larger vehicles, your filters will have to be special ordered from such as K&N.

Not only will you stop killing trees, your engine will run better for it and your mileage may improve as well due to better engine breathing.

A very simple, inexpensive measure can be taken to drastically cut your vehicles greenhouse gas pollution. Art Equipment I’d Love to Own

I own a lot of arts and crafts materials. However, I don’t actually own any equipment for creating art. I would love to have a huge studio filled with art equipment someday.

The equipment that I’d get for my studio would include:

Glassblowing equipment. I would love to have whatever you need to blow glass. Of course, I don’t even know how to do this yet but I’d love to learn! I’d like to make glass beads for jewelry but I’d also like to make vases.
Machinery to melt gold for making rings. I really would love to create a line of Celtic engagement rings and Claddagh wedding rings but I don’t have any tools to shape the metal.
Kiln. There are so many different items that you can make out of clay. I would love to be able to play around with this and then fire the clay products in my own kiln.
Huge easel. I have a small easel but I’d love to have the space to do really huge paintings.

If you could create your own art studio, what would it have in it? Would you desire certain equipment like I do? Or would you simply want more crafts and materials to create with?

Office Equipment That You Do and Don’t Need

Just a short time working on a large dig made me appreciate the smaller digs I’d worked on before. The giant dirt screen plants were great in that they did a lot of the heavy lifting for us in a fraction of the time it would have taken humans, but it also meant we had to spend a lot of time basically sitting on our hands. At least on the smaller digs I always felt like I was doing something, whether it was sifting through all the materials with a little handheld screen.

One day though, just as the grad student promised, a bunch of the workers didn’t show up, and instead of just standing or sitting around with our clipboards taking notes, we had to help with the machines. I did a lot of landscaping work when I was in high school, so cleaning out the machines and putting them back together was not a big deal for me, but archeologists aren’t generally known for their love of manual labor, so it was kind of fun watching some of the other guys pitch in, especially on the larger dirt screening plants. However, it was annoying that nobody at the topsoil screener I was working on really knew what they were doing, or seemed very interested in actually doing the work for that matter.

The new dog park

I’m so excited! Lucy and I just discovered a new dog park in the area. We got sick of the old one because there are so many mean dogs there that bully her. She’s not a small dog (she’s about 50 pounds), but she’s a very gentle soul, and she loves to play but she doesn’t like to be hurt (like us all). The other problem with mean dogs is mean owners that go along with them, and one owner, when Lucy started crying, actually told her dog “Get her! Get her!” like a crazy person. That was the end of that. The new park is beautiful, it goes along the water, and while Lucy’s swimming, I can look across the way and see these huge solar power panels.

I don’t know many facts about solar energy, but I can still appreciate the symbiosis of having a nature reserve across from a solar power farm. It’s really a gorgeous park, and so far we’ve only met really nice dogs there, which really is key. In addition to which, it’s a pretty long walk, so no chubby smokers go there; it’s all people who are interested in exercising with their dogs, not having your dog exercise while you just watch.

Manufacturing and My Dad

The company that my dad started when he was younger was part manufacturing company and part delivery company. He worked hard at manufacturing the parts for companies that ordered them and then he would also deliver them as a part of the service he offered. Because the manufactured pieces were heavy, he and the other employers often used a forklift. The forklift is a handy tool to have around the factory because it helps out in a variety of different ways. It will either lift the component where it needs to go, or help to get that same component down. Additionally, the forklift added to the organization of the factory because it put everything in its place.

The next place we expanded to was Texas. The forklift we bought in Texas was much better than the forklift in California. I think it is probably because the forklift in Texas was a newer model and we really liked all of the bells and whistles that it brought to us. It could lift things higher and the weight limit was higher too. Having a tool that helps a factory out through helping its individuals out is something that cannot be beat.

Field Trip

When I was a kid I always remember going on field trips. One in particular really comes to mind. We went to this plant where they made all kinds of metal parts. The plant was huge and noisy with hundreds of employees. They gave us lessons about metal shearing machines, automatic lathes, and all these big names that fell under the umbrella of “machine tools.”

They even had a video to conclude the tour about the history of metal forming. Afterwards they took questions, and I have to admit I had a lot of questions for the tour guides. I had grown to really wonder what it would be like to work there.

The kicker was at the end when they gave us a brochure about a possible future as a technician specializing in multi spindle machines, screw machines and automatic lathes. I took the brochure home and for the next several months I couldn’t stop talking about that trip. I took several classes in Junior High and High School and always remembered my first trip to the plant.
