It can be a huge headache when your place of business is under construction. Follow these tips to make it easier on everyone in the office:
- Put a plan in place. Make sure that you work with your construction workers to put a clear plan in place for the project. This plan should have a timeline with measurable milestones.
- Clear out as much of the space as possible. Move everyone into just a few offices during the construction. Put extra office furniture into self storage units. Try to make as much space available as possible during this time.
- Lower your expectations. You aren’t going to get as much done during the construction as you normally do so just don’t expect to.
- Hold an out-of-office retreat. Business retreats are a great way for companies to enhance teamwork. Doing one when there’s construction going on in the office anyway makes a lot of sense.
- Know what to do in case of an emergency. Make sure that you understand how to handle emergencies (and how worker’s comp is going to work) just in case something goes wrong during the construction.
The construction process isn’t always fun. However, it doesn’t have to be a big deal either. Adjust your attitude and plan for the problems and the whole thing should be fine.
