Can PHP scripts defeat office politics?
Jul 19, 2009
Moving up the ladder in the web development industry is both easy and hard. How is this apparent dichotomy possible? If you study and are constantly learning new techniques, languages and frameworks, you’ll find that being upwardly mobile is rather effortless. Of course, you’ll need to know more than just PHP scripts to get that corner office.
There is a lot of office politics involved, as seems to be the case with most every industry. Provided you have the ability to navigate those curves, and you’ve found the passion to be constantly increasing your knowledge base, your successful opportunities are vastly improved.
Even the simplest of tasks like the purchase of a dreamweaver extension that will allow you to produce more work in less time is an example of how you’ll want to make progress. Smart supervisors see this sort of dedication in exceptional employees, and almost invariably cause those workers to rise to the top of the crowd.
When the time comes to promote someone a rung or two up the ladder, your boss is much more likely to remember the go getter that you are versus the others in your department. Taking the extra time to learn now will result in your increased salaries and marketability down the road.
