You have just been put in charge of renting barriers for crowd control at your place of business. You make the call to place the order and the first question that the customer service representative asks you is whether you will need steel or plastic barriers. You have no idea.
Steel barricades are typically used for crowd control that are out walking around. In contrast, plastic barricades are most common for directing traffic in crowded areas. This isn’t always true but it tends to be the case and is a good guideline to follow if you’re asked to purchase this type of equipment.
If you’re going to be putting barriers in a parking lot, you should go with plastic. If you’re going to be erecting barricades around something like a stage, choose steel. People tend to be more intimidated by the steel barriers and so won’t press up against them like they would with plastic, an issue you typically don’t have to worry about in parking lots.
Of course, you’ll want to consider other factors as well. Compare the costs of plastic vs. steel for the number of barricades you’ll need. Sizes and availability will also factor into your decision.
